How do you handle heavy oxidation on older boats?

For heavy oxidation (chalky gel coat), we use a rotary compounding process (Packages #4-8). We start with a test spot to determine the depth of the oxidation and verify that there is enough gel coat thickness to safely compound.

What does a full boat detail include?

A full boat detail typically refers to a complete exterior restoration and protection service. At MAD Marine Auto Services, this includes a thorough wash to remove organic growth, chemical decontamination, machine polishing (compound/polish) to remove oxidation, and the application of a high-grade sealant or ceramic coating. Interior cabin cleaning is usually a separate service.

How much to detail a 40 ft boat?

Pricing is based on linear footage and the severity of oxidation. For a 40ft vessel, a basic wash and polymer sealant might start around $20/ft, whereas a full multi-stage compound restoration to fix heavy oxidation can range from $35 to $60+ per foot. We recommend scheduling a diagnostic quote for an accurate price.

How much do you charge to ceramic and clean a 25 foot boat?

Ceramic coating is a premium service that requires extensive surface preparation (cleaning, heavy compounding, and fine polishing) before the coating is applied. For a 25ft boat, this is an investment designed to last multiple seasons. Because it involves significantly more labor than a wax job, costs are higher, typically quoted after a visual inspection of the gel coat condition.

How much to tip a boat detailer?

Tipping is never required but is always appreciated by our hard-working crews, especially on hot summer days. If you feel the service was exceptional, a standard gratuity in the industry is 10-15% of the total invoice, or a flat amount of $20-$50 per crew member.

Do you need access to power and water at my slip?

Yes. Reliable access to dock water and electrical power is required for all marine detailing services. We cannot rely on onboard tanks or generators for these specific services.
